Saving money vs. health

So I'm sitting outside of a McD in Memphis, TN. Yes I am paying for the internet access just to publish this little strain of thought I have begun mulling over. Obviously as a college student, the consensus is "Cheap is Good". I mean, how can you beat 3 double cheeseburgers, fries and a drink for just over 5 dollars? That's basically lunch and dinner! But where do you draw the line with value and health. Those double cheeseburgers and fries are like poison to the human body!

This had lead me to cheap alternatives for college students. How to live life on a budget and still eat healthy...or at least healthier. Try these sites for good ideas on eating healthier on a budget

  1. AngelFoodMinistries.com is a not for profit organization that provides quality meal boxes for a steep discount. The menu varies from month to month and they also have specialty add-on orders to the original box. Visit the site here to look at the selection for the month, find location near you, and order your box now. The basic orders are meant to feed a family of 4 for a week. A single college student can make this stretch a looong way!
  2. Cooks.com has quite a list of recipes for college students or people who just want to eat healthy on a budget. Give it a chance and you could save a little extra pocket cash or money for your savings account.
  3. Kroger has a Plus Shopper program. Signup online or at your local Kroger store and you could see deep savings on your groceries. Shop their online site and you can save even more with exlusive coupons only available to their online shoppers.
I'd like to hear from readers who have other ideas or know of any other programs for cheap and healthy living. Until next time

Cody

Inboxdollars.com

Simply put, Inboxdollars.com is one of the very few websites where you can get paid just for completing simple surveys, receiving around 5 offer emails per day, taking advantage of special offers, and even playing games. They have free offers worth anywhere from $0.01 to $2.00 or $3.00. Work your way up to the trial offer programs (free to try, but will get automatically charged if you don't call or email to cancel subscriptions) you could make anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00 or $20.00 per offer. Personal Goals

Upon further review of my first blog entry, I have concluded that was very much similar to many "firsts" in my life: unplanned, rushed, confusing, and when it was all over I was really disappointed with the outcome. However, I do have my first "serious" blog entry. These are the goals that I have set for myself to follow in this blog and hopefully get some input back from you, the reader.
Here I divide them into A-Short Term Goals (achievable in 18 months or less) and B-Long Term Goals (Longer than 18 months). Here they are for your viewing pleasure:

A. Short Term Goals:

  • Pay off all debt owed (roughly $5,000 as of 11/1/2008). Does not include student loans.
  • Build comfortable emergency fun of $5,000-$10,000.
  • Learn all I can about investing and begin very small DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) investment plan in a very broad portfolio.
  • Build 3 websites from ground up as secondary income to supplement primary income.
  • Graduate from college with double major Spanish/French degree.
  • Begin grad school.
B. Long Term Goals:

  • Start my own business. (I have a bit of authority problem. Don't take orders well)
  • Build websites to sufficient level to support small business venture.
  • Increase activity in stock market. Begin retirement plans.
  • Create my own corporation of at least: 3 online business & 2 small business ventures.
  • Retire/Become multi-millionare by age 35.
So, there are my goals that I have so carefully thoughts out for myself. This, my friends, is what this blog is all about.

Until next time,

Cody

My first blog entry

Let me start my first blog entry with a little introduction - My name is Cody. I am 21 years old and I am the quintessential small town boy with dreams of glory. Not glory in the classical sense, on the battle field or even the football field. My glory is simply the accumulation of the two F's: FINANCIAL FREEDOM. Before you scoff and hit the nice little back button, or stumble to the next random page, let me tell you that this is not a feet to be taken lightly, especially for the typical broke college student like myself. So I have decided to use this blog to chronicle my trials and tribulations while on the path to achieving this goal. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, and maybe I might be able to give some advice of my own along the way that could help one of you out there in cyberspace land.
